Javier Amaya Silva is a doctoral candidate at the University of Oxford Saïd Business School and a researcher at the Technology, Operations and Organisations Studies department. A central theme in his research is the digital transformation of knowledge work. His research focuses on helping organisations apply novel algorithmic technologies (e.g. artificial intelligence) to improve operations, performance and learning in professional and expert contexts.
Javier's current projects focus on three objectives:
Identify how new work practices arise as organisations implement algorithmic technologies;
Determine how knowledge work productivity changes as organisations apply new technologies to augment work;
Define how human behaviour moderates the impact on performance in human-algorithm collaborations.
Javier has been a lecturer at the University of Oxford and ESCP, teaching modules in Machine Learning and Big Data Analytics for Business. He has received various awards including Best Paper awards and excellence prizes. Before joining the University of Oxford, Javier worked as a management consultant and founded a startup in AgriTech.
Javier earned his MSc in Engineering and Management of Manufacturing Systems from Cranfield University, and his BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidad Industrial de Santander and the University of Oklahoma.
